Synagro Announces New Bio-Recycling Center In Southwest Florida
Industry Biosolids Management Leader Provides Compost Solution
BALTIMORE, Aug. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Synagro Technologies, Inc. today announced the Company will soon begin construction of a new state-of-the-art bio-recycling center in southwest Florida.
The new center, to be located in Charlotte County, is scheduled to be in full operation in the first quarter of 2014. The $4.3 million facility will provide southwest Florida with a reliable, safe and eco-friendly solution for recycling biosolids and yard wastes into a Class AA compost product.
The facility will provide regional municipal and industrial wastewater facilities, along with homeowners, landscapers and local utilities, a superior solution in meeting the challenges of recycling their organic wastes through creating a valuable product.
"Our recycling facility fills a significant need in the area with a cost effective solution to create a sustainable program for management of these materials," said Eric Zimmer, President and CEO of Synagro. "Converting these materials to capture the substantial agricultural nutrient value instead of taking up space in landfills just makes good sense. We're proud of the achievements that our technical team working with our local partners has made to make this center a reality; together we are creating an environmentally and economically sustainable solution to the ongoing challenges of managing organic wastes."
The Charlotte County center will be able to process up to 100,000 tons of biosolids and green waste per year, avoiding the landfilling of these materials while creating 75,000 cubic yards of Class AA nutrient rich compost each year.
The center will minimize environmental impact by utilizing proven aerobic composting to recycle organics including biosolids, yard trimming and other green waste. Synagro's facility will meet or exceed all the FLDEP and USEPA regulations while producing a valuable Class AA soil amendment for use in the local marketplace. The environmentally friendly design includes 100 percent recycling of the materials.
Synagro's proven technology is already successfully in operation at three regional compost facilities in the western United States and has been commended for its achievements, including U.S. Composting Council's Composter of the Year and CalRecycle Waste Reduction Award Program (WRAP) Winner and National Biosolids Partnership EMS Gold Certification.
