Corporate Secretary Announces the Winners of This Year's Corporate Governance Awards
Excellence in transparency and governance celebrated at New York gala
NEW YORK, Nov. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Corporate Secretary, the leading governance and compliance publication, is excited to announce the winners of this year's Corporate Governance Awards. This annual event recognizes the leading practices and companies in the corporate compliance, governance and legal community, and we extend our congratulations to this year's recipients.
The winners were selected by an independent panel of judges and honored Thursday evening at an awards gala held at New York's Gotham Hall. They have demonstrated leadership in the corporate legal, governance and compliance field in an economic climate fraught with difficulty. A full list of the winners is provided below.
Highlights from this year's finalist selection process include:
- Governance professional of the year: Brian Miller, AES Corporation, won the honors for the small to mid-cap category, and Jay Martin, Baker Hughes, was chosen for the large-cap category.
- Corporate governance team of the year: KLA-Tencor was selected for the top spot in the small to mid-cap category, while Visa won in the large-cap group.
- Technology and CSR: for best use of technology by a corporate secretary or general counsel, GoDaddy.com emerged victorious. Intel Corporation, which has won Corporate Governance Awards in the past, was named winner in the most innovative CSR disclosure policy category.
- Past and future: the lifetime achievement and rising star awards represent, respectively, the accomplishments of the past and outstanding potential for the future. Corporate Secretary recognized Steve Norman of American Express for the former and Monique Allaire of AVEO Pharmaceuticals for the latter.
Matthew Scott, editor, Corporate Secretary
'Anyone who has seen the headlines over the past year knows that superior corporate governance means more than just following the rules. Companies that do it well gain a clear advantage in an increasingly competitive marketplace, while those that fall short are seeing clear market and regulatory consequences. Staying out of trouble isn't enough anymore – a clear commitment to corporate governance is essential to future business success.'
