ChatGPT and other AI Iterations

There has been a continuous rise in the topic of ChatGPT and AI so far this year. From business to travel, ChatGPT and AI are making their mark as we learn more about the technology's impact and vision for the future.

In early March, CNN advised us to prepare to see ChatGPT responses in even more places, as it's expected to be integrated into numerous apps and services. In Mid-April, Purdue launched the nation’s first Institute of Physical AI (IPAI).

PR Newswire issued 1,768 releases mentioning "artificial intelligence" and/or "ChatGPT" in March and April, a gradual increase of 10% from the previous two months. Here's a short recap:

  • Business

This includes a smart cart system created by artificial intelligence startup Caper AI, which analyzes shopping patterns and responds by recommending various products and deals.
    • Spinify introduced the "Sidekick" AI assistant with the power of GPT-4 technology to redefine the relationship with how sales managers and their sales teams establish smarter goals, better insights, and more personalized experiences to increase growth and revenue.
    • In late April, Inspectorio introduced the "Inspectorio CAPA recommender" tool as the world's first ChatGPT-driven generative AI tool to assist brands, retailers, suppliers, factories, and others with supply chain management. This tool dives into the quality control process, specifically related to the research, validation, and development of corrective action plans.
  • Education
    • In late April, the American Accounting Association published the first crowd-sourced study comparing the performance of the ChatGPT AI chatbot and accounting students on accounting exam questions. The study, "The ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence Chatbot: How Well Does It Answer Accounting Assessment Questions?" concluded that on average, across more than 28,000 assessment questions, the students generally outshined the chatbot.
    • Introducing the A.I. Teaching Assistant (A.I. TA) by Class Technologies Inc. The A.I. TA is set to improve learner engagement and outcomes in live online classes. Some of the highlights include asking questions and receiving immediate answers, as well as creating a "study guide" during or after the live class.

"A great pair of smartglasses is defined by three key factors: fashion, tech, and suitability for all-day wear," said Harrison Gross, CEO of Innovative Eyewear.
  • Health
    • In February, a University of Maryland Medical Center study found that when asked to give advice on breast cancer screening, ChatGPT answered questions correctly about 88% of the time.

Virtual Spaces

Home sweet home? Throughout the months, we’ve seen an increase in news focused on virtual spaces, from education to music in the comfort of your home. In Mid-April, Radisson Hotel Group announced that guests would be able to view the Group’s hotels virtually from their laptops, mobile phones, and VR headsets. Virtual college tours are also seeing growth. In fact, it is reported that high school students are now only one click away from an immersive virtual tour of almost any major university in the U.S.

PR Newswire issued 1,143 stories in March and April that mentioned the term "virtual."

  • Learning

Diversity in Tech

The conversations and efforts to reinforce the importance of diversity in the tech field have been on the rise. In a Forbes article advocating for tech companies to hire more women, Gala Grigoreva argues that promoting gender diversity in the tech industry is just the right thing to do. The practice also helps companies stay competitive and attract and retain talent. It's no question that we need to highlight the importance of diversity in the tech field.

PR Newswire issued a total of 393 tech-related DEI releases in March and April, including:

  • Comcast awarded $1 million to education nonprofit Heights Philadelphia to create a pipeline of diverse talent for technology-related workforce opportunities for Black, Brown, and first-generation-to-college students in Philadelphia.
