Global Tech Talent Gathers in Hong Kong for the W193 Tech Challenges
HONG KONG, July 10, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Hong Kong has hosted a global event! The W193 Global Tech Challenges, organized by the Global Alliance for STEAM Education (GASE) and supported by the Research Centre for Green Business (RCGB) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, successfully took place at the Hong Kong Science Park on July 7-8, 2025. Teams from mainland China, Malaysia, Mexico, Hong Kong, and Macao came together to showcase their innovative talents in robotics technology.
The goal of the W193 Global Tech Challenges is to bring together academic elites from 193 countries and regions under the United Nations, promoting technical cooperation and creative sharing. This platform inspires students to demonstrate their abilities in technology, innovation, and problem-solving, committed to advancing global education and technology development. This year's competition featured a rich array of events designed to assess the comprehensive capabilities of the participating teams, including three core competitions: a robotic soccer match testing team strategy and real-time control; an emergency drone competition simulating disaster scenarios to assess aircraft precision and rescue efficiency; and a quadruped robot challenge testing stability on complex terrains.
During the event, Professor He Min, a national management scientist and founding president of the International Entrepreneurship Mentorship Association, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He expressed great anticipation for students' involvement in robotics and artificial intelligence developments through this international academic competition hosted in Hong Kong. He emphasized the vital role of STEAM education and robotics training for primary and secondary students, which can ignite their interests and nurture future talents. Professor He stated, "Through such activities, students not only learn new technologies but also enhance their passion for science and technology, laying a solid foundation for future development." He firmly believes that this event will provide invaluable opportunities for students to thrive in a globalized environment.
Additionally, Dr. Joseph LEE, a senior lecturer from the Division of Business and Hospitality Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, also participated in the event. He noted that early exposure to robotics and related technologies could better prepare young students for future challenges. He encouraged students to actively engage in relevant activities through school and scientific institutions to enhance their interests and abilities.
Marcy, a coach from Mexico, shared her thoughts on the competition: "It's important for students to see their knowledge applied in real situations and to realize that people from all over the world are doing the same things." When asked about her favourite part, Marcy said, "I loved the drones; students and everyone can see how practical they are in real applications. Both drones and quadruped robots demonstrate the applications of robotics in various industrial fields, and I think that's really cool." She encouraged more people to get involved in promoting the development of technology education.
