Expanding into Sustainable Aviation Fuel

The Forbes China recognition comes as Mekar continues to broaden its regional footprint beyond financial services and into the sustainable energy economy.

On September 9, Mekar Ecosystem signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Future Fuel Limited at the 11th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong, establishing a framework to develop a cross-border sustainable aviation fuel value chain connecting Indonesia's feedstock resources and production capabilities with Hong Kong's aviation, financial and innovation ecosystem.

The collaboration is expected to cover multiple stages of the SAF value chain, including the collection, processing and export of lipid and green feedstocks from Indonesia; trading and supply of certified green ethanol; establishment of an Alcohol-to-Jet Research and Development Centre in Hong Kong; investment in SAF production facilities in Hong Kong; and technology transfer and operational support for SAF production facilities in Indonesia.

The partnership provides Mekar with an opportunity to leverage its network and capabilities in Indonesia while working with Future Fuel to develop a scalable regional platform for sustainable aviation fuel. It also creates a potential bridge between Indonesia's abundant renewable resources and the growing demand for lower-carbon aviation solutions across Asia.
