SINGAPORE, Sept. 28, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- Baxter International, a global medtech leader, has launched an important community health campaign to raise awareness of kidney disease and the treatment options for patients.
The campaign titled "Live Your Way" is one of the largest kidney care public awareness in Singapore and supports a patient-centric event from National Kidney Foundation (NKF) called "My Dialysis Journey".
The event on this Saturday 30 September 2023 offers members of the public free access to registered Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) to ask questions and learn more about Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and the various treatment options for kidney failure including dialysis at home or in a dialysis centre.
Patients on dialysis and kidney transplant will also share their personal stories with the community at the "My Dialysis Journey" event and on television, radio, print and on public signage.
The "Live Your Way" public awareness campaign invites patients and their caregivers, to plan and choose their treatment to help give them the freedom to live a fulfilling life.
Subhan, aged 54, a diabetes patient on home-based peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a chef and cooking instructor who said choosing home-based PD treatment allowed him to continue with his daily activities.
"I can cook, conduct my classes," he said. "I deliver food to my customers during the weekend. Chronic Kidney Diseases isn't a full stop. Planning your treatment gives you the freedom to live your way."
Every day, about six patients are diagnosed with kidney failure in Singapore, a three-fold increase from two decades ago, according to the National Kidney Foundation (NKF).
More than 300,000 people in Singapore suffer from CKD, the precursor to kidney failure, and this number could be much larger as many remain undiagnosed due to the silent symptoms of CKD in its early stages, according to NKF.
NKF holistically supports more than 5,500 patients and beneficiaries, about 60% of the total dialysis patient population in Singapore, by providing quality home-based and in-centre dialysis treatments and integrated care to meet patients' physical, nutritional, and psychosocial needs.
NKF empowers patients to proactively manage their health, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives and make meaningful contributions to both their families and society.
