Pearson Day Thailand focused on assessment, generative AI and the role of teachers in supporting meaningful learning.
BANGKOK, Nov. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Pearson (FTSE: PSON.L), the world's lifelong learning company, brought together education leaders and English teaching specialists on 29 October 2026 for Pearson Day Thailand.
The event, themed "Reimagining English Education in Thailand", explored how schools and universities can adapt teaching and assessment as generative AI changes the way students learn.
The event deepened Pearson's well-established relationships with teachers and leaders in government and institutions as they develop their approaches to English teaching, assessment and AI-enabled learning. This aligns with Thailand's policy focus on strengthening teacher capability, modernising education to international standards and using technology, including AI, to support second-language learning.
Where Pearson supports these objectives includes:
- Ministry of Education recognition of Pearson English learning resources
- PEIC as an approved English certification for local teachers
- GED as an equivalent to upper-secondary completion
- Certiport certifications benchmarking practical digital and technical skills; and
- BTEC's delivered across Thailand's formal education system.
David Lyons, Pearson's Vice President of English Language Learning in APAC said: "Teachers bring the classroom experience and judgement that give AI a meaningful role in learning. Pearson Day was an opportunity to share ideas, learn from one another and explore how AI can support English teaching in Thailand."
The programme featured a panel on "Generative AI in Education: Challenges and Opportunities".
Speakers were Pearson academic consultant and trainer Brett Blumenthal; Associate Professor Dr. Supong Tangkiengsirisin from Language Institute, Thammasat University; Thailand TESOL Vice President Associate Professor Dr. Pornpimol Sukavatee, Faculty of Education Chulalongkorn University; and RMIT Vietnam Centre Manager Dafi Jenkins.
Breakout sessions on "Teaching for tomorrow: staying relevant in the age of AI" focused on educators working with K–12 and adult learners. The programme also included plenary sessions and audience Q&A.
These themes reflect Pearson's Educator Guide: Redefining Formative Assessment in a Generative AI Era which outlines practical ways to protect learning integrity while helping students develop critical thinking, AI literacy and future-ready skills including:
- Protecting learning integrity by designing formative assessment that keeps students actively engaged in thinking rather than outsourcing that thinking to generative AI.
- Building critical thinking and AI literacy through activities that ask learners to compare, evaluate and justify AI-generated responses.
- Supporting teachers with practical, adaptable strategies for evolving assessment while keeping professional judgement central to classroom decisions.
