"The Beauty of Green Buildings Through the Lens of Architects" Photography Exhibition Will Be Featured as a Partner Event of Hong Kong Green Week 2025
Ranked among the global Top 10 Markets for LEED, Hong Kong has accumulated nearly 500 LEED-certified building projects
HONG KONG, Sept. 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- As a flagship annual event in Hong Kong's sustainability sector, the second edition of "Hong Kong Green Week" will launch on September 8. This series of events, themed "Forging a Sustainable Future Together," aims to promote exchange and cooperation among local and international stakeholders. As a partner event of Hong Kong Green Week, the photography exhibition "The Beauty of Green Buildings Through the Lens of Architects," organized by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and partnered with the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC), will be open to the public at Taikoo Place, Hong Kong, from September 8 to 14.
The exhibition presents the beauty of green buildings through visual art, showcasing over 80 selected works that depict Hong Kong's green building achievements covering everything from its urban skyline to building details, allowing the public to experience the humanistic value and aesthetic charm of sustainable architecture.
Significant strides in green building in Hong Kong
According to the latest data from USGBC, as of the first half of 2025:
- Hong Kong has accumulated nearly 500 LEED-certified projects, with a total certified area of over 110 million square feet—equivalent to around 40 International Commerce Centres (ICC).
- Over the past five years, LEED-certified buildings in Hong Kong have achieved a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.4%.
- Office and retail projects account for approximately 80% of all LEED certifications in Hong Kong, with the remaining covering data centers, residential buildings, hotels, and logistics facilities—demonstrating that the green transition is extending into new infrastructure and service-oriented spaces.
- LEED for Operations and Maintenance (O+M), applicable to existing buildings, has consistently accounted for over 30% of local certifications over the past three years, and surpassed 40% for the first time in 2024. This indicates a market shift from focusing on new construction to improving the operational performance of existing buildings—making the transformation of existing building stock a key direction for Hong Kong's green building development.
Benefiting from the active development of green finance in Hong Kong, LEED continues to grow rapidly in the local market. In 2024, Hong Kong entered the top ten LEED markets globally for the first time (according to USGBC statistics).
Among the notable achievements, Taikoo Place, under Swire Properties, was certified as Hong Kong's first LEED community. Meanwhile, Hongkong Land's portfolio of 12 buildings in Central also received LEED O+M Platinum certification, driving the overall revitalization of the city's core business district.

ICC Achieves Asia's First LEED v5 Certification
This year, USGBC launched the latest version of LEED, LEED v5, focusing on decarbonization, quality of life, and ecological conservation and restoration. The International Commerce Centre (ICC) became the first project in Asia to receive LEED v5 certification, highlighting Hong Kong's leadership in enhancing the performance of existing buildings and sustainable operations of supertall structures. LEED v5 also provides investors and tenants with clearer carbon performance benchmarks, further supporting asset value enhancement and ESG disclosure.

The exhibition will feature over 80 works by nearly 40 architects and public participants. The artworks span perspectives from the city skyline to building details, fully showcasing the beauty of green buildings and their contribution to urban revitalization.

This exhibition is organized by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) North Asia and partnered with the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC).
