Taiwan Pavilion in the Spotlight at NATAS Holidays Travel Fair

Promoting Tainan's 400^th Anniversary Celebrations, Taiwan Lantern Festival 2024 and the Taiwan International Orchid Show in Tainan

SINGAPORE, Sept. 1, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- With the gradual reopening of borders around the world post-COVID, the global tourism industry is on the rise once more. Tainan in southern Taiwan has achieved remarkable success in promoting both domestic and international tourism. Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-Che led the city's Tourism Bureau in opening the Taiwan Pavilion at the 2023 National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS) Holidays Travel Fair, showing his city's determination to attract visitors from Singapore. Tainan agricultural products including orchids and dried mangoes were given away as promotional gifts, as well as "Tainan 400" omamori amulets with a custom-designed logo of the Singaporean flag and the word "TAINAN."

Mayor Huang thanked Taiwan's Tourism Bureau for inviting Tainan City to take part in this travel fair as a team. The event marked Tainan's return to Singapore after a hiatus of five years due to the pandemic. Singapore is an important market for Tainan's tourism. Tourism Bureau figures show that since restrictions on travel were relaxed last year, over 30,000 visitors a month have traveled from Singapore to Tainan, making a significant contribution to the local tourism industry. The city government has been in active communication with China Airlines to establish direct flights from Singapore to Kaohsiung, aiming to attract more Singaporean tour groups and independent travelers to Tainan. Mayor Huang also mentioned that Deputy Mayor Chao Ching-Hui led a team to Singapore at the end of July to promote Tainan's premium agricultural and processed products, and to engage with the Tourism Bureau's office in Singapore as well as China Airlines' Singapore branch and local tour operators. To introduce the region's diverse agricultural specialties to international visitors, the delegation made a special effort to promote Tainan's Xi Shi and Jin Huang mango varieties to Singaporean tourists and businesses during their August visit. In addition to this, the 2023 Taiwan International Orchid Show in March attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors and impressed many foreign diplomats in Taiwan. Tainan's exceptional orchid cultivation and wide range of colors were highly acclaimed. The upcoming 2024 Taiwan International Orchid Show will take place in Tainan in February, inviting tourists from Singapore to come and enjoy these diverse and beautiful flowers.

Lin Kuo-Hua, Director of Tainan City's Tourism Bureau, said the theme of Tainan's exhibition booth at the travel fair is "400 Years of Tainan, Waiting to Meet You," promoting the "Tainan 400" anniversary celebrations in Singapore and highlighting the historical charm, creative arts and local cuisines that have made the city a top travel destination. In addition to taking part in the three-day NATAS Holidays Travel Fair, Tainan City's Tourism Bureau also attended travel industry networking events organized by the Tourism Bureau in Singapore and the Taiwan Tourism Association to introduce Singaporean tour operators to Tainan's tourism resources and the 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival. The team also partnered with major shopping centers on Orchard Road to display the "TrulyTainan" ad campaign, effectively promoting Tainan to both industry partners and independent travelers.

The Tourism Bureau said that with the reopening of borders, many international tourists have begun to visit Taiwan once more. To support the central government's policies and capitalize on the post-pandemic travel boom, the Bureau has launched the 2023 Tainan City Incentive Plan for Attracting International Tourists. Recognized domestic travel agencies can apply for subsidies of up to NT$100,000 for group tours comprising at least four foreign tourists with a stay of at least one night in Tainan, from now until November 30. Additionally, in partnership with international travel e-commerce platforms KKday and Klook, the Bureau has introduced limited-time promo codes for overseas independent travelers starting from August 1. KKday offers over 4,000 promo codes for tourists to enjoy NT$50 off any Tainan travel product, while Klook provides a NT$500 discount for accommodation bookings over NT$3,000. These initiatives aim to encourage budget-conscious international travelers to plan a trip to Tainan in the near future.
