The Waste-to-Energy Plant Turns into an Urban Garden --- Indonesian High-level Delegation Visits SUS ENVIRONMENT's World-class Benchmark Project
SHANGHAI, Aug. 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Since the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 35 of 2018 on accelerating the development of waste-to-energy power plants, Indonesia has made limited progress in this area. The central government is currently revising the aforementioned regulation and plans to task the sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, with leading its implementation. How to select reliable technology providers and investment partners has become a major challenge for Danantara.
Against this backdrop, on August 26, 2025, H.E. Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Minister of Investment and Downstream Industries of Indonesia, led a delegation comprising senior officials from the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries, Danantara, and Pertamina to visit Jiaxing Jiayuan Waste-to-Energy Project in Jiaxing City. Dr. Long Jisheng, Chairman of SUS Environment, warmly received the delegation, while Mr. Eric Zhan, CEO of SUS International, personally provided a detailed introduction to the project and core advantage of SUS Environment. The garden-style campus, aesthetically pleasing exterior design, efficient incineration system, and advanced environmental technologies left a deep impression on H.E. Rosan Perkasa Roeslani and the delegation members.
Dr. Long introduced that SUS Environment has always focused on municipal solid waste treatment, dedicated to creating a cleaner and more friendly living environment. As a globally leading supplier of WtE technology and incineration equipment, SUS Environment has provided technical support and core equipment for 300 WtE plants worldwide, with a total daily treatment capacity exceeding 300,000 tons. SUS Environment has also invested and operates 90 low-carbon eco-industrial parks, which include WtE plants, sludge treatment facilities, food waste and construction waste treatment facilities, with a total processing capacity of over 120,000 tons per day.
Dr. Long further introduced that Wuxi Fangling, as SUS Environment's equipment manufacturing base, covers the production of moving incinerators, sewage treatment, sludge treatment, and flue gas treatment systems, ranking first in scale in Asia. He also emphasized that SUS Environment has been deeply cultivating the Indonesian market for many years, in early 2024, SUS Environment won the bid for the Makassar WtE project, which has a daily waste treatment capacity of 1,300 tons and includes the coordinated treatment of landfill mining, with a total investment of USD 200 million, the project is expected to generate 209 million kWh of electricity annually. In September 2024, the project company signed a Cooperation Agreement with Makassar City government and is currently in the PPA negotiation phase. SUS aims to commence project construction within this year and achieve Commercial Operation Date (COD) by the end of 2027.
Mr. Rosan acknowledged SUS's advanced technological capabilities and stressed that Indonesia's waste treatment requires advanced, environmentally friendly, and reliable technologies. With new presidential regulations set to be released, Danantara aims to conduct groundbreaking for the WtE plants in Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Semarang, and Bandung in 2025, and Mr. Rosan and Danantara also hope and support Makassar project to achieve groundbreaking in 2025 as well.
Dr. Long expressed his gratitude to the Minister for his concern and support, he also believes that Indonesia's WtE development is on the right track, with the strong emphasis from the central government of Indonesia and the effective coordination by Danantara, Indonesia's waste crisis can be effectively resolved.
