AAA Chicago: Pink Tow Trucks will Service Chicagoland Motorists in October

AURORA, Ill., Oct. 1, 2012­ /PRNewswire/ -- Stranded motorists shouldn't be surprised if they see a pink tow truck coming to their aid. For the first time in AAA's more than 100-year history, it is painting its classic red, white and blue tow trucks the color pink in order to raise awareness of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in collaboration with the American Cancer Society.

AAA's new pink tow trucks will service Chicagoland throughout National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the remainder of 2012. The two pink-outfitted trucks will assist more than 1,500 AAA members and may be seen by Chicagoland residents and its over 10 million visitors over this three-month period.

"We assist more than 25 percent of the driving public with AAA roadside assistance—and our service vehicles are seen on our nation's roadways by millions of motorists each day," said Gerry Gutowski, Sr. Vice President, AAA Automotive Services, The Auto Club Group. "Our hope is that pink tow trucks will garner attention and spread awareness to help in the fight against breast cancer, which is the second leading cause of cancer death in women."

In addition to the pink trucks, AAA will also play an integral role in helping to host the more than 3,000 walkers expected on October 20^th for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk at Montrose Harbor in Chicago. AAA is a sponsor of the event; it will host its own team of walkers to raise money for the American Cancer Society and will also provide free roadside assistance to any who may have car troubles with lockouts, flat tires or dead batteries. Both pink tow trucks will be on hand at the event and will be available to assist anyone, both members and nonmembers, in need.

AAA will also paint tow trucks pink in both Detroit and Orlando to help support the American Cancer Society's walks in those markets. This tri-city initiative, and related courtesy services to the three Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks, is part of AAA's long-standing commitment to community service and its new partnership with the American Cancer Society.
