Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia has introduced the Federal Adjustment of Income Rates Act, which would provide federal workers with a 5.3% pay raise next year. The American Federation of Government Employees, which represents 670,000 federal and D.C. government workers, proposed the 5.3% raise after President Obama announced a 1.6% increase in his 2017 budget. "Federal employees have gone far too long without a decent wage increase, resulting in a 6.5% drop in their standard of living since the start of the decade," AFGE National President J. David Cox Sr. said.

Retired Army sergeant Leland Arledge was awarded a $5,000 Housing Assistance for Veterans (HAVEN) grant from Arvest Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas to remove carpeting and install wood flooring in Mr. Arledge's home, giving him greater independence. Medically retired in 2011, Mr. Arledge is a below-the-knee amputee who was severely injured September 11, 2011, by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.
