A staff member at the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary feeds a group of orphaned chimpanzees in Sierra Leone, Africa. Due to the devastating Ebola outbreak that was confirmed in Sierra Leon in May and the resulting drop in tourism to the area, the Sanctuary's funding was negatively impacted and the care of the chimpanzees jeopardized. The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund board reviewed and approved the crisis grant request in September and provided financial support to offset their funding issues.

Cleveland-based Animal Oralectrics has invented a new medical device called Zumby(TM) that fights oral bacteria linked to bad breath and gum disease in dogs. The device is disguised as a dog toy and uses a small, safe and undetectable amount of electrical stimulation to eliminate harmful oral bacteria.
