ActiveBatch® To Extend Virtual/Cloud Provisioning Through "Intelligent Automation"
ActiveBatch Job Scheduling and Workload Automation will expand "Intelligent Automation" to cloud computing and hybrid IT environments to reduce costs and increase flexibility.
MORRISTOWN, N.J., May 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc. (ASCI), maker of ActiveBatch® Workload Automation and Job Scheduling Software, is taking the next step in simplifying cloud computing by announcing its intent to expand its "Intelligent Automation" capabilities to predictively manage and automate virtual and cloud computing environments. Advanced Systems Concepts is pleased to announce a new program that will provide users with these capabilities to help customers make the transition to hybrid or cloud computing environments while reducing costs and increase scalability within virtualized and cloud computing environments.
Job scheduling and workload automation products have traditionally focused on mainframe and distributed environments. The emergence of virtual and cloud computing has necessitated an evolving role for workload automation, as key components of virtualization and cloud technologies reside across distributed technologies, including on-premise or within public or private clouds.
Today, virtualization and cloud-based technologies are reactive because underlying management systems don't have the historical perspective to make predictive analysis; server resource utilization is analyzed in real time for reactive operations. For virtualization and cloud-based technologies to continue to meet and exceed expectations, businesses will require predictive capabilities of resource management that only a workload automation solution can provide, making it the predictive vehicle that will alert users of critical events or changes, such as a shift in peak processing periods, which could impact a workload's Service Level Agreement.
"ActiveBatch currently provides 'Intelligent Automation' with a centralized solution to reactively provision and manage physical, virtualized and cloud resources, but that's no longer enough," says Jim Manias, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Advanced Systems Concepts. "Moving forward, we're extending 'Intelligent Automation' to predictively manage cloud resources."
To address this problem, ActiveBatch will introduce new resource management and event automation capabilities that will leverage historical processing data that resides in ActiveBatch and external sources. This will allows users to proactively provision the cloud by marrying both predictive and reactive forms of resource management, provisioning and scheduling. As vendors such as Microsoft, Amazon, VMware, Citrix and others enhance their virtual machine and cloud based offerings, particularly in the area of management, ActiveBatch will provide knowledge of the business processing demands to ensure resources are available when and as needed. This means that virtual systems can be rapidly provisioned as ActiveBatch will know when and for how long these resources will be needed. Historical knowledge of workload performance will allow the underlying management of cloud-based or virtual machine systems to positively affect their hosts in terms of utilization and power consumption, allowing for the creation of execution plans that encompass and integrate the business' resource requirements with their cloud and/or virtual environments to better meet the business' goals.
"The concept is simple: provide the resource management and event automation capabilities to crunch the historical data already located within ActiveBatch to make intelligent, predictive decisions about when and where we should be running workloads before problems develop or before costs exceed expectations," Manias says. "Cloud and virtual machine IT environments are about increasing resource scalability while reducing costs. Intelligent workload automation is the catalyst by which to deliver those results and is the future of the workload automation market."
