Adam Smith, Esq. Launches JD Match to Address Flawed System to Recruit Law Students by Law Firms
New Online Solution Helps Pair Firms' Preferred Students with Students' Preferred Firms; K&L Gates Signs as First Charter Member
NEW YORK, May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Adam Smith, Esq., a management consulting firm to the global legal industry, today announced the launch of JD Match (http://JDMatch.com), the first-ever online recruiting service designed to address the dysfunctional law student hiring process. The service is membership based, open to all law students, law firms and law schools in the U.S.
The new online solution uses a proprietary matching algorithm and other features to pair firms' preferred students with students' preferred firms, increasing the chances for longer-lasting relationships. JD Match complements (and does not replace) traditional on-campus interviewing during which the top 250 law firms ranked by the National Law Journal fill an estimated 9,500 associate positions annually from U.S. law schools.
K&L Gates, one of the largest US-based law firms, has become its first charter member and will be using JD Match to assist in recruiting all summer associate positions during this fall's 2L recruiting season.
"It's about time someone took the bull by the horns to address the antiquated method firms are forced to use to recruit students," said Peter J. Kalis, Chairman and Global Managing Partner of K&L Gates. "We believe that JD Match will enhance the existing fall recruiting process, and independently generate good recruitment results, as well. Change is a necessity, and I, for one, am looking forward to this 21st-century solution."
JD Match will run its matching algorithm three times during the fall 2011 recruiting season. The proprietary software will initially pair 2L law student members with law firm members based on the preferences of each. Beyond the algorithm, JD Match has other features to benefit firms, students and schools, including new ways for firms and students to discover each other, not available today. Together, these features help ensure more mutually beneficial pairings between firms and students. JD Match streamlines introductions between the two parties; job offers are not made via JD Match.
Law students from any accredited U.S. law school can create a profile on JD Match for the inaugural fee of $99, which covers the 2011 2L recruiting season. Law firms joining JD Match pay an annual subscription fee based on their lawyer headcount, a common pricing structure for the profession. Membership for law schools is free.
"K&L Gates has been our earliest supporter during the ideation of JD Match, and Pete Kalis is an amazing resource to us," said Bruce MacEwen, President of JD Match. "Having this esteemed firm sign on as our first charter member lends support to our belief that the industry is hungry for alternatives to the flawed student recruiting system."
