Aflac Ranks 214 on 2012 Forbes Global 2000 List

COLUMBUS, Ga., April 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Aflac, the number one provider of supplemental insurance in the United States, serving more than 50 million people worldwide, is ranked number 214 on the 2012 Forbes Global 2000 list of the world's biggest public companies.

Forbes compiles the Global 2000 list by screening Interactive Data, Thomson Reuters Fundamentals and Worldscope databases via FactSet Research Systems for publicly traded companies. Using these databases as its primary sources of data, Forbes screens for the biggest companies in four metrics; sales, profits, assets and market value. The market value calculation is as of March 16 closing prices, including all common shares outstanding. All figures are consolidated and in U.S. dollars.

Aflac amassed $22.2 billion in revenues in 2011 and $2 billion in profits. The company operates in the United States on both group and individual platforms and in Japan, where Aflac is the number one life insurance company in terms of individual policies in force.  Aflac is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and is currently ranked number 125 on the Fortune 500.
