Albertsons and Safeway in Oregon, Washington and Northern Idaho Voluntarily Recall Certain Bakery Products in Cooperation with Dawn Food Products Inc. and Valley Milk Products LLC Recalls Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination

BOISE, Idaho, Dec. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In cooperation with Dawn Food Products Inc., Albertsons and Safeway stores in Oregon, Washington and Northern Idaho are voluntarily recalling bakery products made with Valley Milk Products LLC's High Heat Nonfat Dry Milk Powder. Valley Milk Products has voluntarily recalled the milk product due to possible Salmonella contamination. Dawn Food Products used the recalled milk product in a vanilla cream custard mix, which was supplied to Albertsons and Safeway for use in bakery products.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and persons with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and/or abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism entering the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with bakery items purchased from Albertsons or Safeway stores or items made with product supplied by Dawn Food. This recall has been issued out of an abundance of caution. 

The recalled products were sold from the self-service and full-service areas of the bakery on or before December 15, 2016. The products have a Sell By Date of December 20, 2016 (12-20-16) or earlier.

The recall impacts the below products, which were sold in Washington, Oregon and eight (8) stores in Northern Idaho (Idaho stores listed after products):
