AT&T Awards Contribution to Polk County's New Beginnings High School to Augment Job Readiness Program
WINTER HAVEN, Fla., Aug. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- New Beginnings High School (NBHS), an accredited community-based charter school serving all Polk County students in Winter Haven, Lakeland and Fort Meade, announced today that it is the proud recipient of a contribution from AT&T to further develop its Automotive Academy. The NBHS Automotive Academy offers students the opportunity to learn invaluable skills and competencies to become workforce-ready upon graduation.
For more than 60 years, AT&T has been pivotal in enriching and strengthening the diverse communities they serve. With a special emphasis on supporting nonprofit organizations and programs that focus on quality-of-life issues, improving education and advancing community development, the grant to NBHS Automotive Academy was a perfect match.
With over 85% of NBHS's graduates remaining in Polk County to enter the workforce, the Automotive Academy is the first of several academies that NBHS will be offering its students to help become employable, productive and independent citizens. Students can earn their high school diploma and an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification encompassing various automotive skills. "We are thrilled that AT&T is investing in our students and has recognized that our Automotive Academy brings industry and employment opportunities directly to graduates right here in our own community," said Ms. Ashlee Wright, CEO and Founder of New Beginnings High School.
In 2016, NBHS started the Automotive Academy with a small number of students. Based on this successful pilot, the grant will be used to further enhance, build and equip the Academy into a fully operational learning facility where its students can be instructed and trained to meet requirements and certifications for employment opportunities.
"AT&T is proud to help the students at New Beginnings High School with the resources to obtain the skill sets and the opportunity of employment. We are confident this will positively impact their future livelihood and Polk County as well," said Matt Mucci, Regional Director, External Affairs.
