B. Braun Expands Portfolio of Eco-Friendly, Large-Volume Irrigation Containers
TITAN™ XL--The only large-volume, flexible containers on the market that are not made with natural rubber latex, DEHP or PVC
BETHLEHEM, Pa., Sept. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- B. Braun Medical Inc. (B.Braun), a leader in infusion therapy and pain management, announced today the launch of two new large-volume irrigation containers—Sterile Water for Irrigation 2L and 0.9% Sodium Chloride for Irrigation 2L. These new additions are part of B.Braun's expanding TITAN™ XL line of large-volume, flexible containers.
Due to a sudden, unexpected shortage in the marketplace for irrigation solution caused by a competitor indicating that their large-volume solutions would not be available through distributors or wholesalers, B.Braun has accelerated the launch of its 2L Sterile Water for Irrigation and 0.9% Sodium Chloride for Irrigation. In addition, B.Braun will be ramping up production of its 3L irrigation TITAN XL containers over the next several months to help off-set this nationwide shortage. Currently, B.Braun is focused on meeting the requirements of its contracted customers and will accept new customers as supply permits.
"B.Braun has been a pioneer in developing fluid containers that are environmentally friendly and focused on patient safety," said Rick Williamson, Vice President of Pharmaceutical Marketing at B.Braun. "We are very excited about our growing line of safe and effective fluid therapy solutions within B.Braun's TITAN XL line, which complements our broad family of IV containers," added Williamson.
With these additional TITAN XL containers, B.Braun will further expand its line of solution containers that are not made with natural rubber latex, DEHP (a plasticizer and known toxicant) or PVC (a likely carcinogen when incinerated).
Exposure to these toxic materials has been a growing concern for healthcare facilities around the world. Studies show that excessive exposure to DEHP can potentially lead to adverse health effects, especially to a patient's liver, kidneys and lungs, as well as their heart rate and blood pressure.1 More than three decades ago, B.Braun recognized the environmental and patient risks posed by products containing DEHP and PVC. As a result, B.Braun was the first medical device manufacturer to remove these harmful substances from many products and today is the only supplier that offers a full line of solution containers that are not made with DEHP or PVC. B.Braun is strongly committed to finding alternative methods to manufacture safer products such as the TITAN XL irrigation bags. B.Braun is a proud member of Practice Greenhealth, a membership organization for institutions and businesses in the healthcare field who are engaged in reducing their environmental footprints.
