BrainStation Announces the Acquisition of Origami Academy, a Leader in the Latin American Digital Education Space
NEW YORK, July 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today BrainStation announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Origami Academy, a leading Latin American digital education institute, based in San Jose, Costa Rica. Founded in 2013, Origami Academy delivers unique and innovative programming and educational offerings spanning web and mobile development, user experience and user interface design. The acquisition of Origami marks BrainStation's first entry into Latin America, and establishes it as the first global player to enter the space. Origami's operations will proceed fully under the BrainStation global brand.
"We have seen a gap between the training that traditional educational institutions in Latin America provide and what is needed in the marketplace for employees to succeed. Origami has done a great job of building a series of course offerings to bridge that gap and we are perfectly positioned to develop their offerings further and bring it to new markets," said Hooman Bahador, Co-Founder of Konrad Group, BrainStation's parent company.
"Origami's geographic reach, team, and innovative approach to education are a perfect strategic fit for BrainStation's long term objectives. This acquisition generates significant opportunity for our core business, and unlocks a full suite of Spanish language offerings, which provides us with the ability to project our capabilities into additional markets," said Jason Field, Founder, BrainStation.
In addition to the acquisition, BrainStation has committed the resources to translate and deliver BrainStation's North American offerings. BrainStation Latin America will immediately commence hiring of managerial, educational, and technical staff across the region in order to facilitate anticipated growth.
"BrainStation represented a fantastic outcome for my original vision for Origami Academy. Over the last two years we were successful at developing innovative offerings, which addressed a significant need, but achieving scale was something that required a strong partner. Origami has that in BrainStation, and as BrainStation Latin America we are just getting started on this new journey," said Mauricio Poveda, Founder of Origami.
