INFOGRAPHIC SEEKS TO EDUCATE BOSTON DRIVERS WITH GOAL OF REDUCINGTRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
BOSTON, Sept. 24, 2104 /PRNewswire/ -- The police know it. EMS, Fire, and the local tow truck drivers are aware. But unless you've been in a smash-up recently, you probably have no idea which Boston intersections are the most dangerous.

"Raising public awareness was the primary motive for creating a visual representation of where the traffic accidents are happening," said attorney Mark Sheehan. "By putting the statistics in an easy to digest format, Bostonians see where they might be at risk."
The graphic shows not only where the most crashes occur, but details the type, time of day and road conditions. To make it easy to share, the chart is available with an embed code included and is free to pass along.
"We know that traffic safety officials have this data," said Sheehan, "They use it to help improve signaling, road markings, and for setting speed limits. But the general public can't be expected to wade through all the numbers." His hope is that road safety information will be as commonly available as other routing selections. "Imagine if you could pull up on your in-vehicle GPS, not just the shortest route, or the fastest, but the safest."
As an attorney specializing in injury law, Sheehan has been promoting traffic safety issues for some time. He supports "Vision Zero," a program used elsewhere to dramatically reduce traffic accidents and injuries. The approach uses improved driver education coupled with increased enforcement and attention to road design to directly address the causes of accidents. "It's amazing to read that Bostonians are still being cited for seatbelt or car seat violations," said Sheehan. "These are simple, well-known measures proven to reduce injuries and save lives."
