CenturyLink plans gigabit expansion to 100,000 residential customers
SALT LAKE CITY, May 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL), a leading provider of 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) broadband services for consumers, businesses and education in Utah, has committed to bring 1 Gbps speeds to approximately 100,000 residential customers in the next 12 months in a number of locations ranging from Logan to St. George, providing customers with some of the fastest upload and download Internet speeds in the U.S.
CenturyLink's February 2014 launch of 1 Gbps service to 2,500 Salt Lake City businesses in multi-tenant buildings has now grown to more than 11,500 business locations throughout the state, including the Wasatch Front. In addition, CenturyLink recently announced that its gigabit service is helping the Utah Education and Telehealth Network (UETN) create a network capable of carrying more than a full terabit of combined bandwidth across 1,412 schools and educational locations across the state, making Utah one of the most connected education systems and connected states in the nation.

CenturyLink is using fiber-to-the-premises technology to provide speeds up to 1 Gbps, equivalent to 1,000 Mbps, allowing users to stream high-definition video content with little to no delays and download movies, songs and TV shows in seconds.
