NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Feb. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- On January 28, 2018, the congregation of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Newport Beach, CA, voted to call Chap Clark as Pastor and Head of Staff. After a 14-month long process, the nine-member St. Andrew's Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) states that they "evaluated over 100 candidates, many outstanding. As we progressed, it became increasingly evident that God had placed in our midst someone with unique and superlative gifts in all the desired dimensions…Ultimately, your PNC overwhelmingly and unanimously determined to pursue Chap as our preferred candidate among all our finalists."
Chap Clark comes to St. Andrew's after spending 21 years at Fuller Theological Seminary, serving as Professor of Youth, Family and Culture, Chair of the Christian Discipleship department, Associate Provost for Strategic Projects, Vice Provost, Vice Dean, and Executive Director of the Student Leadership Project. He has also authored and co-authored 24 books, including Hurt 2.0: Inside the World of Today's Teenagers, and Sticky Faith: Everyday ideas to Build Lasting Faith in Your Kids. Chap Clark succeeds Richard Kannwischer, who is now the Senior Pastor of Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
Regarding his call to St. Andrew's, Chap states, "For over thirty-five years, a significant portion of my work has been in the form of preaching, lecturing, speaking, and training leaders. Although I have greatly enjoyed my work as a professor, researcher and scholar, my core calling is to work in the context of intentional community to mobilize men and women of all ages to serve the kingdom of God."
Rev. Dr. Mark Labberton, President of Fuller Seminary, shares, "Chap Clark is a man of great talent and passion. The center of his vocation is Jesus Christ. It is out of this center that Chap lives his life and conducts his vital ministries for youth, family and for all ages. He is a man of joy, compassion, humor, and wisdom. I'm excited for his opportunity to serve as your Pastor, and for what God will bring forth from a deepening friendship between Fuller and St. Andrew's."
In a recent letter to the St. Andrew's congregation, Chap Clark states, "We can't wait to join you on this adventure of following Christ to lead lives that reveal God's goodness, and we earnestly look forward to what God has for us all in the years to come!"
