Christopher D. Pappas Elected to FirstEnergy Board of Directors

AKRON, Ohio, Sept. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE) today announced that Christopher D. Pappas has been elected to serve on the company's Board of Directors.  Pappas is president and chief executive officer of Styron LLC (Trinseo SA), a leading global materials company located in Berwyn, Pa.

Pappas began his career at the Dow Chemical Company in 1978.  In 1996, he joined DuPont Dow Elastomers LLC, where he held several management positions, initially as vice president of Ethylene Elastomers and from 1999 onwards as commercial vice president.  He joined NOVA Chemicals Corporation in 2000, serving in various senior management roles prior to being named president and CEO in 2009.  He was named to lead Styron in March 2010.

Pappas served on the Board of Directors for Allegheny Energy, Inc., from 2008 through FirstEnergy's acquisition of Allegheny Energy in February, 2011.  He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of NOVA Chemicals.  

Pappas holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from The Georgia Institute of Technology and an MBA from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.  

The election of Pappas brings the size of FirstEnergy's Board to 14 members.
