"We have a lot of great, creative people here who came up with some fantastic ideas," said Chuck Smith, referring to the employees who came up with the gift ideas. "Sometimes, giving vacation tickets as a gift is not very exciting until the vacation actually begins, so we wanted to come up with a way to replicate the excitement of opening a gift. We wanted imaginations to run wild, and for the receivers of the gift to be happily surprised. What our employees came up with is a whole lot better than handing someone a plain envelope or tickets with bows on them."
After a few brainstorming sessions, the employees came up with three ideas that they thought would cause a great deal of fun and excitement. The first, which they called "puzzle surprise," involves creating a puzzle that the receiver of the gift would have to put together. When the puzzle is completed, it reveals a message stating the destination and the details of the vacation. The second idea has the gift-givers turn a hand-mirror into a Mickey Mouse mirror by adding on a pair of black ears. The mirror will be accompanied by a note that says "Look who's going to Disneyland." Finally, a large box can be packed with a number of balloons, including a balloon with a Disney character. When the box is opened, the balloons will be released, informing the receiver of the gift that they will be taking a vacation to Disneyland. Get Away Today's Julie Smith says, "Our goal is to make vacations even more fun. I'm not sure that's possible, but we'll keep trying to add enjoyment and excitement to every vacation."
"We feel that these ideas are really going to add another level of excitement. It will be an exciting surprise when the gift is opened, and then the excitement can begin again when the vacation actually starts. I think they turned out great," said founder Chuck Smith.
