Circonus Announces Contract with AppNexus

FULTON, Md., May 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Circonus, Inc., creators of the Circonus real-time monitoring and analytics platform and the IRONdb time-series database, have announced a partnership with AppNexus, the world's leading independent advertising technology company.

With over a hundred bare metal machines, many just for storage, the Graphite infrastructure in AppNexus is a substantial installation, one of the largest in the world. By incorporating IRONdb, the highly scalable time-series database from Circonus, AppNexus will significantly  reduce infrastructure in its New York datacenters, replacing a large storage cluster with a much smaller set of nodes running IRONdb and thereby achieving savings in operational costs.

IRONdb provides data replication and error protection, storing metrics redundantly across multiple machines to protect against data loss and ensure data availability during outages. With a replication factor of two, AppNexus's new IRONdb database stores twice the data on fewer machines.

AppNexus needed a "drop-in" replacement. All other components and tools needed to stay the same, but they needed improved storage, scalability, data replication, and reduced operational costs. IRONdb is designed to "plug-and-play" with the Open Source tool, Graphite, to provide these capabilities to existing infrastructure.

To fulfill its long-term analytics goals, AppNexus will need to store more data, but it had already reached the practical limits of its infrastructure and required a new, scalable solution. IRONdb from Circonus fulfills these objectives and provides AppNexus with a path forward.
