Ural sidecars began their storied history during World War II when the Russian government appropriated German BMW R71 motorcycle technology in 1939. Soon after, Russia moved their motorcycle sidecar-building facilities from Moscow to a town called Irbit just east of the Ural Mountains. Now known as Urals, these motorcycles with sidecars are still manufactured in Irbit, by hand, to this day.
