Club Med Unveils New Details About Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda: Its First Exclusive Collection Resort In The Americas

MIAMI, Oct. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Club Med unveiled the very first look at Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda, the company's first Exclusive Collection resort in the Americas, nestled in an untouched region of the Dominican Republic. The first look reveals new renderings of the resort and details about its environmental positioning and four boutique villages.

The company first announced this project in May 2018, when it held a celebratory event on the future site of the resort to lay the first hallmark icon: the first cabana daybed. During the event, Club Med shared it will be the first hospitality brand in the world to open a resort in the pristine, lush region of Miches, approximately an hour and a half north of the now-famous vacation hotspot Punta Cana (in which Club Med was also the first to build on when it opened its resort in 1978).

At 93 acres, Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda is Club Med's biggest project of its type in the Caribbean in the past 40 years. The resort will be part of Club Med's Exclusive Collection, a dedicated category of the most premium resorts designed for travelers seeking the finer elements of the all-inclusive resort brand. The resort will be the first full Exclusive Collection resort in the Americas, and will act as the new flagship of the dedicated line in the region.

Exclusive Collection resorts are characterized by their premium accommodations, exceptional hospitality and personalized services, exclusively beautiful locations around the world, refined dining concepts and lounges, transformational experiences, and unique architecture and design elements. Other Exclusive Collection resorts include the Finolhu Villas in the Maldives, the recently opened Cefalù resort in Sicily and the Valmorel Chalets in the French Alps.

One Resort Featuring Four Boutique Villages

Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda will introduce a new concept to the brand's Exclusive Collection. In order to create a more personalized, customizable and intimate experience catered to each guest, the resort will feature four boutique villages. Each of the four boutique villages will present its own unique environment, activities and accommodations. The villages include Archipelago, Caribbean Paradise, Emerald Jungle and Explorer Cove.

Archipelago – Unparalleled Seclusion

The Archipelago boutique village features a sophisticated oceanfront sanctuary exclusively for adults. As the top-tier in privacy, guests who check into one of the Archipelago suites will enter an intimate getaway where the shades of blue seem to never end: from a private pool to a personal outdoor shower, this haven is nestled right against the shorelines of Miches' pristine beach, complete with personal oceanfront daybeds. Caribbean Paradise – Uncharted Beauty

Caribbean Paradise is the alluring heart of the resort, full of lush tropical gardens and colorful surprises. Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda will feature an eco-chic haven atmosphere, devoting its design, activities and elements to the surrounding region. As Miches is a pristine haven in a lush Dominican palm grove, Club Med's goal is to keep as much of its ecological essence so guests who visit the resort understand the natural beauty that first attracted many locals to the destination.

Prior to construction, Club Med worked with local government agencies to perform an in-depth environmental impact study on the resort's plans to ensure a minimal footprint and impact to the beauty of Miches and its natural state. As construction ensues, Club Med has enacted a tree re-planting program: every tree removed to make way for the resort's foundation will be re-planted in or around the resort area.

The infrastructure of the project has undergone a series of assessments on its environmental, social and economic sustainability performance to earn its BREEAM certification for the construction process. Once finished, the resort's daily operations will perform under the Green Globe certification to meet the highest standards of sustainability.

Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda will also enact a no plastic straw initiative as part of Club Med's global commitment to eliminate single-use plastics from all of its resorts. Educational mini-sessions and a community garden for guests will also be available to learn about gardening, recycling and other sustainable actions.
