Cogito Corp Receives NIMH Grant to Improve Outcomes in Mental Health Treatment in Primary Care

BOSTON, Jan. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Institute of Mental Health has announced that Cogito Corp, a Boston-based software company, has been awarded a 3-year $1.8 million Small Business Innovation Research grant to research the efficacy of Cogito's novel mobile platform.  Cogito Corp will collaborate with the Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) Department of Psychiatry in evaluating the solution for patients with co-morbid medical and behavioral conditions in a BWH Patient Centered Medical Home.

Cogito's platform is unique in providing mobile-enabled, scalable, noninvasive tools for detecting and monitoring behavioral health problems across populations. It includes a mobile phone app to passively and securely gather behavioral data that relates to mental health clinical assessment criteria, run this data through computational models validated against mental health assessments, and provide transparent feedback in both a patient-facing mobile dashboard and a clinician-facing clinical/research dashboard. BWH and Cogito Corp will collaborate to study the effects of the solution on treatment outcomes and patient engagement in a subset of patients in one of the Brigham's advanced primary care clinics.

Dr. Skyler Place, PhD, Cogito Corp, will serve as Principal Investigator of the project. Dr. David K. Ahern, PhD, BWH Psychiatry, will serve as the subcontract lead.
