A fun new Facebook App enabling people to compare the social popularity of everything from who's 'hot or not' in the celebrity world to comparing football teams or mobile phones, was launched today by comparethemarket.com. The new application can be accessed via Facebook and the comparison site's website.

The new app works by scouring a variety of online data sources to find out which of the two topics selected for comparison has the most web mentions. Results are displayed as a unique icon cloud infographic with comparisons added to the You And Your Friends comparison board. Popular comparisons are automatically displayed on the Popular Comparisons Board.

Users can tell their friends about their comparison result by posting the result to their news feed and friends' walls. Users of the app will also be able to invite friends to try out their own comparisons.

The app can also be accessed from the Facebook page of Russian meerkat entrepreneur Aleksandr Orlov, who currently has over 760,000 fans.
