Coordinated Care Oklahoma Becomes First HIE on Cerner Technology to Connect With DoD

NORMAN, Okla., June 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CCO becomes first Health Information Exchange on Cernertechnology to connect with U.S. Department of Defense Coordinated Care Oklahoma (CCO) announces a true system to system connection serving the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). Implemented in conjunction with Cerner and Browsersoft, as technology partners — the system is available from June 28, 2016.

This marks the first time a Cerner agency is providing electronic health records to the DoD.

Serving active duty military personnel, retired military and their families with Electronic Health Records (EHR) through CCO's Health Information Exchange (HIE), CCO's technology platform is a joint venture between Cerner and Browsersoft. CCO supports a user base that is pressed for time, and provides subscribers with ease of use in HIE across the expansive network of the eHealth Exchange.

Local impact such as military personnel at bases in Oklahoma being assured their electronic medical records will now follow them and be made available to subscribers in CCO's Health Information Exchange — which covers Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, and Kansas.

What this initiative does is give patients and health care providers assurance that electronic medical records for these military personnel and families are now accessible off base and at facilities throughout our member network. 

CCO speeds time to information by giving subscribers at healthcare facilities access to vital patient information. Department of Defense personnel can now feel comfortable in the knowledge their most important medical information is available through CCO to doctors and health care professionals whether they're on base or off. 

Currently there are 22,000 active duty military personnel in Oklahoma. These members of our nation's armed forces are supported by 23,000 civilians at military installations across the state. All of these records are now available to CCO members as of June 28, 2016.
