Dermatologist Amy Taub, MD, is Published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology
LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill., Oct. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Dermatology LLC, is proud to announce that Amy Forman Taub, MD has been published in the October 2011 e-Edition of the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology (JCAD). JCAD is a highly respected monthly peer-reviewed publication for practicing dermatologists.
The paper, with coauthor Cara Beth Garretson, MD, is titled "Treatment of Acne Scars of Skin Types II to V by Sublative Fractional Bipolar Radiofrequency and Bipolar Radiofrequency Combined with Diode Laser."
Background: Recent evidence has surfaced that devices that combine ablative with nonablative fractional technology are effective in treating acne scarring. A relatively new treatment uses fractionated bipolar radiofrequency energy, which has been shown to improve mild wrinkles, skin texture and smooth and tighten skin. This treatment -- sublative rejuvenation -- also has its advantages because it reduces down time and produces few side effects.
The study: Study participants (8 men and 12 women ages 30-50) received up to five treatments with sublative fractional bipolar radiofrequency and bipolar radiofrequency combined with diode laser. Treatments were directed to at least two areas (cheeks, forehead, perioral, and neck) with acne scars evaluated at four-week intervals.
The results: Acne scars improved significantly one month after three treatments and improvement persisted for at least 12 weeks after the fifth treatment. Improvement was effective in all skin types treated (from II to V) and treatment produced minimal downtime and no significant side effects.
