The Energy Information Administration's (EIA) published the International Energy Outlook earlier in January. The report projects that the total energy production will increase by more than 20% from 2016 through 2040, led by increases in renewables, natural gas, and crude oil production. Diesel remains the dominant fuel for trucks despite increasing use of alternative fuels. Regional programs such as California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulation, which has been adopted by nine additional states and California's SB-32, which requires a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, improved alternative vehicle sales, especially electric and fuel cell vehicles.
