NEW YORK, Nov. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Education crowdfunding nonprofit DonorsChoose.org announced it's launching a philanthropic giveaway on November 29 for #GivingTuesday. The #GivingTuesday GIVEaway will give 100 donors and teachers the chance to support additional classroom projects on DonorsChoose.org, thanks to a $500,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
"Millions of people have used DonorsChoose.org to support America's teachers and students, and the #GivingTuesday GIVEaway is our version of a 'golden ticket,' one which empowers 100 lucky winners to bring classroom dreams to life at great scale," said Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose.org. "We're so grateful to the Gates Foundation for helping people across the country experience the joy of giving."
From 12:00:01 a.m. ET on November 29 until 2:59:59 a.m. ET on November 30, every time a donor supports a classroom on DonorsChoose.org, the donor will be entered into a drawing for one of 50 $5,000 DonorsChoose.org gift cards to support classroom projects. Additionally, the teacher that the donor supported will also be entered into a separate drawing for one of 50 $5,000 DonorsChoose.org gift cards. The gift cards, which can only be redeemed on DonorsChoose.org, can be used to support classroom projects created by U.S. public school teachers, seeking funding for resources like books, technology, supplies, and field trips.
DonorsChoose.org was one of the inaugural partners of #GivingTuesday, a grassroots movement that began in 2012 and has expanded in the past five years to reach 71 countries. Traditionally held on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday calls on the public to give back to the community during the holiday season.
For additional details on the #GivingTuesday GIVEaway, including a no purchase necessary entry option, please see the official rules. Prizes have no cash value to the winners, and use of prize gift cards is not tax-deductible for the winner.
