Entrust President and CEO Bill Conner to Receive Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award at National Youth Science Camp 50th Anniversary Celebration A former NYSC representative, Conner to deliver keynote address, provide in-depth look at today's cybersecurity landscape
DALLAS, July 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Bill Conner, president and CEO of Entrust, Inc., a global leader in securing digital identities and information, will be this year's keynote speaker at the National Youth Science Camp (NYSC) luncheon today at the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C.
Conner will discuss today's rapidly evolving cyber ecosystem — from a dramatic rise in the number mobile devices to serious security concerns stemming from state-sponsors attacks, as well as terrorists and activist groups.
"One of my primary career objectives is to be strategically positioned at the inflection point of digital technology transformations," said Conner. "The cyber security revolution is gaining momentum and our challenge is to address this new reality head on. Financial institutions, governments and organizations must embrace both mobile and the cloud as crucial tools in our fight against malware and today's cyber criminals."
During the event, Conner will receive the prestigious NYSC Alumnus of the Year award, which is given to alumni who support NYSC with their efforts, achieve recognition in their chosen fields and helps further science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.
"In selecting our Alumnus of the Year, the NYSC seeks to recognize individuals who make contributions of enormous value to their field," said Honorable Chief Judge Ronald G. Pearson, Chairman of the Board, National Youth Science Foundation. "Bill Conner and Entrust are providing critically important global leadership for the development of safe and responsible solutions that safeguard digital identities and secure communication."
The 50th annual luncheon is hosted by West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller in honor of the 2013 delegates to the National Youth Science Camp.
"One of the biggest cybersecurity issues we face is training and preparing the next generation of cyber experts. Our children understand how much technology impacts our country and their daily lives, but we need to make sure they grasp the potential threats too," said Rockefeller. "Students are in an unparalleled position to help defend against cyberattacks in the future, so we need to give them every opportunity to break into this critical field."
Founded in 1963, the NYSC is a summer honors program for young scientists from around the country who recently graduated from high school. The camp is a four-week program that consists of lectures by scientists, hands-on studies and voluntary opportunities to participate in an outdoor adventure program.
