ESN Wins $10.9 Million Veterans Affairs Contract to Enhance VistA HIPAA Compliance

Engineering Services Network to Develop Enhancements to VistA's Third Party Payment System

ARLINGTON, Va., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Engineering Services Network Inc. (ESN), a trusted leader in technology and engineering solutions, announced today that it has won a $7.9 million contract from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The VETS GWAC task order has a value of $7.9 million for the first year and, if all options are awarded, is worth a total of $10.9 million.

ESN was awarded the contract on March 23 for work through Nov. 30, 2010. Optional tasks may be awarded by Dec. 1.

ESN performs, IT, engineering and business consulting services for the U.S. military, Veterans Affairs, and other federal agencies.

Under the new contract, ESN will upgrade the VA's Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) to meet Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Electronic Transaction Standards, enabling third-party health care revenues/payments (aka "5010/D.0."). 

The enhancements must be ready for external testing by January 2011 and be in production by January 2012. ESN is supported on the project by team members Harris Patriot Healthcare Solutions, Inc.; Vangent, Inc. and 7 Delta, Inc.

VistA is an award-winning, enterprise-wide electronic health record system used throughout the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). The VHA uses VistA to oversee the health care needs of millions of Veterans by employing the Nation's largest integrated health care system at over 1,400 sites across the U.S.

Under the contract, ESN is tasked with providing 13 specific enhancements to VistA legacy products, employing a synergistic approach that will create efficiencies in the development process and overall schedule.
