GTL Intelligence Analysts Leverage GTL Data IQ to Assist in Identification of Homicide Suspect

RESTON, Va., Nov. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- GTL announced today that its link analysis application, GTL Data IQ, has been used to identify a suspect in a homicide that recently occurred at a large correctional facility in the United States.

When a major incident, such as a homicide, happens at a correctional facility, steps are taken to secure the area: the facility is locked down, visits are cancelled, and additional staff members are called in to assist. As the investigation begins, investigative staff begin gathering evidence, conducting interviews, and in some facilities, engaging GTL's intelligence analysts. Analysts play a crucial role in any investigation and are even more valuable in security-related incidents.

In response to a recent homicide, one of GTL's customer facilities engaged their on-site GTL analysts to assist in mining data while investigators tended to other time-sensitive tasks. The analysts were quick to engage, leveraging the GTL Data IQ application to map out the victim's network. Focusing in on an area of suspicious connectivity, analysts identified the suspect and informed correctional officials, who corroborated the information and seized the suspected offender from his cell.

"This type of coordinated effort and expertise brings significant value to facilities that have multiple sources of data to sift through during investigations such as telephone systems, visitation logs, financial transactions, and more," said Mitch Volkart, GTL Senior Product Manager, Intelligence Tools. "Investigators can easily identify actionable intelligence by using GTL Data IQ to consolidate all of this information in a single user interface, and GTL's intelligence analysts can add their experience to investigative teams without a facility needing to look outside their circle of trusted partners for additional resources."
