SAN JOSE, Calif. and NEW YORK, Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- HGST, a Western Digital company (NASDAQ: WDC), and Verizon Enterprise Solutions today announced that HGST is providing solid-state storage solutions for Verizon's recently introduced Verizon Cloud.  HGST's s800 Series Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) enterprise-class solid-state drives (SSDs) are being deployed in Verizon's cloud servers, providing large enterprises, mid-size companies and small businesses with high-performing, highly reliable solid-state storage on a scalable platform.

"In building Verizon Cloud, we set out to vastly improve public cloud performance and deliver control and flexibility to the user," said John Considine, chief technology officer of Verizon Terremark.  "HGST's reputation for high-performance and reliable SSDs fit our vision and assures Verizon Cloud has a solid foundation."

"Verizon's selection of the s800 Series for Verizon Cloud validates HGST's critical role in cloud computing and enterprise storage," said Steve Campbell, chief technology officer of HGST.  "Our solid-state storage solutions are enabling new cloud architectures, whereby traditional data centers are giving way to software-defined and flash-driven storage and hardware consolidation, delivering maximized per-user performance more efficiently."

Verizon Cloud puts control in the hands of the user, allowing them to dial up or down virtual machine and network settings.  This provides predictable performance for mission-critical applications.  Verizon Cloud leverages the HGST SSDs' high speeds, range of capacities, and reliability to meet the users' needs for performance, flexibility and data security.  The 2.5-inch s800 Series SSDs, with capacities of up to two terabytes, deliver ultra-high transactional performance for cloud computing, server and storage applications.  The drives also control total cost of ownership through low power consumption, efficient cooling and flash-endurance features that are among the industry's most advanced.

Demonstrations of Verizon Cloud are available at booth number 301 at the Cloud Connect conference, held at McCormick Place, Chicago, Oct. 21-23.
