Hoover Met Complex in Hoover, Alabama Closes First Fiscal Year With Impressive Results

HOOVER, Ala., March 1, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- In the 2018 fiscal year, The Hoover Met Complex out-performed both projected economic impact numbers and budget allocations. The state-of-the-art facility, managed by Sports Facilities Management, created $14.86 million in total economic impact from out of town visitor spending and local events.

The complex hosted more than 1,700 teams, 22,000 athletes and coaches, and 48,000 spectators from traditional and non-traditional sports events. Notable tournaments include Blue Chips Basketball, AAU Super Regional Volleyball Tournament, WSA Cheer, Future 150 Basketball among others. A significant part of the growth is attributed to non-sporting shows and meetings with Alabama Power Company, Birmingham Association of Realtors, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Spectrum, Sysco Food Shows, CASC Gun Shows and Market Noel.

In late 2018, Hoover Climbing and Adventure opened inside the Finley Center creating a new active-entertainment option for children of all ages. The baseball and softball fields have created additional opportunities for the size and types of events at the Hoover Met Complex by increasing the number of fields available, in addition to the existing Hoover Met Stadium. The final phase of the Hoover Met Complex opened on February 1, 2019 and features 16 tennis courts and five multi-purpose fields, which are NCAA regulated for football, lacrosse and soccer. The EXPLORE playground and splash pad, which feature a universal design, will be the last portion of this phase and are expected to open in March.
