Huangling's Shaiqiu Oil Painting Exhibition Sets World Record
HUANGLING, China, Nov. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Huangling, China's most beautiful countryside village, has hosted a shaiqiu-themed oil painting exhibition on Tianjie Street as a part of the Huangling Rooftop Art Festival, which has been recognized as the world's largest shaiqiu oil painting exhibition by the World Record Association (WRA).
A total of 301 artworks created by 30 renowned Chinese painters were highlighted at the exhibition. Collis ilmi Rost, officer from the WRA, evaluated the number of paintings on-site and presented a certificate verifying the event as the "Largest Shaiqiu-Themed Oil Painting Exhibition" to Huangling.
Huangling is the only Chinese village that has kept the folk tradition of shaiqiu, or "crop-drying in mid-air." The villagers sun-dry harvest produce like hot chili peppers, pumpkins and corn on the rooves of the hundreds of Hui-style houses in the village throughout the year.
Wu Xiangyang, CEO of Wuyuan Rural Culture Development Co., Ltd., noted that being recognized for a world record will further promote Huangling and the village's rich cultural heritage internationally. "Shaiqiu is the cultural icon of Huangling; its vibrant view is deeply rooted in the lives of the locals, and we hope that it can be an inspiration for everyone," said Wu.

Visitors travelling to Huangling can now enjoy the record-setting oil painting exhibition. November and December are the best months to capture the view of shaiqiu and the beautiful fall foliage in Huangling. The village is now decorated in the bright red and gold colors of shaiqiu produce and maple leaves, creating an artistic and cinematic vibe.
Huangling was named "The Sino-foreign Most Beautiful Shooting Location" during the 74th Venice Film Festival, a validation of all the hard work that the people of Huangling have done to preserve the beauty of the village and its traditions.
