Inaugural Play For P.I.N.K. Event Raises Nearly $100,000 to Aid Breast Cancer Research
HARRISBURG, Pa., Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Cancer Society estimates that about 232,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the United States during 2014, which is what makes fundraisers like Play for P.I.N.K. recently held in Harrisburg so important. Hosted by The Country Club of Harrisburg, the inaugural event held on Oct. 6 raised nearly $100,000 for cancer research.
"For its first year, the results of this local Play for P.I.N.K. event were outstanding and the support was incredible," said Marianne Caplan, event chairwoman. "One in eight women still gets diagnosed with breast cancer. Treatment has come a long way, but more can be and needs to be done to find a cure."
Nearly 200 people attended Play for P.I.N.K., including local media personalities, business executives, and breast cancer patients and survivors. The full-day of activity included golf, tennis, yoga, zumba, card games, a silent auction, and the ever-popular scarf dipping (dyeing).
In addition to supporting breast cancer research globally, a portion of the funds raised will be donated to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, a local non-profit organization that focuses on education, outreach, advocacy, research and treatment support for Pennsylvania women and their families who are impacted by the disease.
"We were incredibly honored to host and support this year's inaugural Play for P.I.N.K event," said Glenn Ebersole, General Manager of The Country Club of Harrisburg. "The level of participation in the day's activities and passion for the cause were inspiring to all who attended and helped make the day so successful. We look forward to hosting this very special event again next year!"
