InBody Announces Important Revision to Body Composition Analysis CPT Code
InBody, a leading manufacturer of body composition analyzers, is pleased to announce a significant revision to CPT code 0358T, the code by which insurance companies recognize bioelectric impedance analysis tests.
LOS ANGELES, March 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- InBody is pleased to announce the American Medical Association's (AMA) recent revision of Current Procedural Technology (CPT) Category III Code 0358T, the code that insurance companies use to recognize Whole Body Composition Analysis tests whose results are generated through bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA).
Previously, code 0358T had only covered body composition tests that were conducted while a subject tested in the supine position. The revision, accepted by the AMA CPT editorial board at the February 2015 board meeting after a successful proposal lodged by InBody, deletes the specific reference to "supine position."
"It was a privilege to work with the American Medical Association to address the revision of the 0358T code in order to acknowledge all FDA approved methods of BIA procedures," said Gianna Rubino, Regional Manager for InBody. "On behalf of the InBody team, we are happy to address this for our customers in order to better serve their patients."
The deletion of the reference to body position will allow InBody-owning hospitals and clinics to bill insurance companies for body composition analysis tests. Patients will be able to get a detailed analysis of their body fat percentage, lean body mass, and total body water in order to track their health progress and goals.
A testing period for the revised code will now follow the CPT editorial board's decision. The code is scheduled for early release on July 1st, 2015, and patients and practitioners can begin contacting their insurance companies for billing options from this date. Implementation will follow on January 1st, 2016.
