A bed bug bite may manifest as a raised, reddened welt that is incorrectly identified as a mosquito or spider bite, which prevents the victim of the infestation from seeking appropriate debugging treatments. Bed bugs also feed on sleeping pets, which is difficult to detect because their fur camouflages bite marks.
