LAS VEGAS, Jan. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year, Sands Cares the global corporate citizenship program of Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS) donated a total of $100,000 to five non-profit organizations serving the Las Vegas community. The program, called the Sands Give-Back Bank, is a charitable giving initiative that enables LVS team members at The Venetian, The Palazzo and Sands Expo Convention Center to determine where the company allocates a bank of charitable funds.

LVS Team Members voted to allocate funds among five local non-profit organizations serving a range of Nevada residents in need, including those suffering from abuse, hunger and homelessness.  The organizations were HELP of Southern Nevada, The Shade Tree/Noah's Animal House, Communities in Schools of Nevada, Three Square and U.S. Vets, Las Vegas.  After more than 3,000 votes were cast in the month of November, Las Vegas Sands made contributions to each of the charities based on the percentage of votes received. Each organization received a base amount of $10,000 and the remaining $50,000 was allocated based on team member votes.

"We thank all the team members of The Venetian, The Palazzo and Sands Expo for this wonderful donation. It is going to go to great use serving our nations heroes," said Shalimar Cabrera, executive director of U.S. Vets Las Vegas.

U.S. Vets Las Vegas received the largest number of votes from LVS team members and the donation will go toward services such as counseling, job placement, employment assistance and housing for homeless veterans and their families.

"The connection between helping community organizations who do such important work and letting our team members be part of that process is a win-win for the company," said Ron Reese, senior vice president of corporate communications at Las Vegas Sands. "Sands Give-Back Bank was designed to support two of our core corporate social responsibility values – our people and our communities."

Sands Give-Back Bank is a major component of the Las Vegas Sands' global corporate citizenship program, Sands Cares.  Sands Cares encompasses the company's corporate social responsibility priorities: supporting people in the company and the hospitality industry, making local communities where LVS operates a better place to live, and reducing environmental impact on the planet.
