LED Source To Distribute New Philips LED T8 InstantFit Tubes
WELLINGTON, Fla., Nov. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- LED Source, the leading North American LED lighting solutions provider specializing in design, support, development, project management and financing, will become one of the first distributors of Philips LED T8 InstantFit Tubes. The new T8 LED tubes will be available immediately. As one of the first LED instant replacements for outdated linear fluorescent fixtures, the new tubes can use existing electronic ballasts and will allow for reduced labor costs as well as significant energy savings for hotels, multi-family complexes, office buildings, hospitals, municipalities, contractors, and more.
"Due to our close partnership with Philips, we have been given early access to the InstantFit Tubes," said Marcel Fairbairn, founder and CEO of LED Source. "These are one of the first LED tubes on the market offering plug and play compatibility with existing ballasts. That reduces install costs to zero. In fact, it's less of a retrofit than a simple change of habit with huge benefits. We plan to market the new tubes heavily toward end-user clients and contractors, who will be able to immediately offer this new product to their own clients."
Standard fluorescent tubes last an average of 5,000 – 10,000 hours while the new InstantFit lamps last an average of 40,000 hours and result in a 41 percent energy savings. The availability of more energy efficient lamps will be especially beneficial due to increasing restrictions on fluorescent tubes from the U.S. Department of Energy.
Facility managers have long struggled to update their lighting systems. In order to replace fluorescent tubes with LED tubes, it was necessary to hire professionals to rewire the ballasts before plugging in the new LED tube. Additionally, the new lamps will allow facility managers to stock up on LED tubes and transition at there own pace without wasting any of the existing supply of fluorescents.
While LED lamps can cost more than incandescent and fluorescent lights – requiring a higher initial investment – businesses will often see the payback in just a year or two. InstantFit Tubes are ideal for applications with frequent on/off switching cycles and buildings that desire to be mercury free. The new lamps offer full light output in spaces with temperatures down to -22° F, instantly turn on with no flicker or buzz, and emit virtually no ultraviolet or infrared rays.
