Local Business and Foundation Serve Bronx Community with 10th Annual Basketball Tournament and Fundraiser
Bronx Youth Treated to College Scholarships, School Supplies, and Weekend of Free Fun Courtesy of Lawyertime.com and the Gardiner Foundation.
BRONX, N.Y., Aug. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- This year's Gardiner Memorial Foundation Basketball Tournament marked the 10th year in a row the attorneys at Gersowitz Libo and Korek, P.C. and the Gardiner Foundation served the Bronx Community through a fun-filled weekend of basketball and giving. This year's event, the largest-to-date in both attendees and contributions, took place at St. James Park, August 15-16, bringing over 3,500 fans to the park.
Those who attended the free event, were treated to live local music, dance performances, and non-stop street basketball, showcasing some of the nation's best talent, with complimentary food and beverages.
With sponsorship from Lawyertime.com and generous contributions from, Steiner Sports, Kyrie Irving, The New York Knicks, The Garden of Dreams, The Brooklyn Nets, and private donors, the Gardiner Foundation was able to give away, five college scholarships to college-bound high school seniors, over 450 backpacks filled with school supplies, and 20 Samsung tablets to local students. Other items generously gifted to the community include, autographed memorabilia by Mariano Rivera and Chris Paul, donated by Steiner Sports, and 23 pairs of sneakers and tee-shirts, donated by Kyrie Irving. The New York Knicks donated 100 tee-shirts and drawstring bags.
The following teams competed, Lawyertime.com, Kurt's Flirt, Shane All Star, Body Snatchers, Team Long Island, Team Philly, Buffalo, and Gun Hill. Gun Hill replaced Team Mississippi. The Championship was Kurt's Flirt against Gun Hill (both from the Bronx), and Gun Hill won the championship.
The tournament also featured the first-ever girl's 14 to 17-year-old all-star game on Sunday before the Championship. Girls teams were the Long Island Lightning versus Castle Athletic's Lady Knights. The girls that played with the Long Island Lightning AAU program, are part of Island Garden in West Hempstead, NY. Jim Fox and Sandy Rossen coached the Long Island Lightning team and Roger Collier and Curtis Simpson coached the Lady Knights team.
