Make Meaning Acquires Scribble Press
~ Retail Entertainment Destination Continues Growth Team
NEW YORK, July 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Make Meaning, the ultimate experiential retail and events destination where children and adults can choose from over 50 creative experiences ranging from cake decorating and candle making to jewelry design, soap creation and ceramics, has acquired Scribble Press, a retail "make your own book" format launched in California in 2008. Make Meaning's Bookmaking Experience launched initially in its Upper West Side store on July 16th.
"Make Meaning offers a 'plug and play' format to easily debut new and exciting creative activities," said Make Meaning CEO Dan Nissanoff. "We are often approached by companies that have a great concept but need a strong retail foundation and breadth of overall offering that we can offer. We are excited to leverage the success of Scribble Press' book publishing activity with strategic enhancements that allows the offering to flourish within the Make Meaning brand."
Make Meaning guests will now be able to create and publish their own original art and stories. Make Meaning also acquired Scribble Press' extensive library of storytelling and art classes that will roll out to its locations over the next year.
"Dan and his team have created something entirely unique with Make Meaning," said Scribble Press Co-Founder and CEO Anna Barber. "We think Make Meaning has the potential to become a global retail entertainment brand and it's a great platform for what we wanted to accomplish with Scribble Press – to inspire and empower kids to create and publish their own books. Make Meaning is all about creativity and expression – so it's a great fit for our concept."
Barber and her co-founder Darcy Pollack launched Scribble Press in Los Angeles in 2008 and expanded with two locations in New York in 2010. In 2011 the company shifted its focus to the digital channel with the iPad App Scribble Press. The Scribble Press brand and digital business will remain independent.
Make Meaning which is privately financed, currently operates five locations in the United States including stores in New York City on the Upper East and Upper West Sides, in Scottsdale, Arizona, in Dedham, Massachusetts and in Thousand Oaks, California.
