John has a great shot at breaking that record on March 1st at the Reggie Lewis Center," Cleary said

He was also the runner-up in the indoor 5000m, an event in which he holds the Georgetown and BIG EAST records, at the 1991 NCAA Championship. He won the BIG EAST Indoor 5000m title four-times, only one of seven conference athletes to accomplish that feat in any event, and the conference outdoor 5000m title in 1987, 1990 and 1991.
