Memories.com Launches as First Free User-Powered, Socially-Connected Memorial Site without Ads
WASHINGTON, Oct. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Photographs gather dust; newspaper clips yellow with time; even cherished memories fade if left unshared. Memories.com was launched today as the first non-commercial service for members to celebrate the lives of loved ones through permanent interactive online memorials. Unlike similar sites, Memories.com is streamlined and elegant. It stands out as ad-free, customizable, free of any membership charge and fully integrated with Facebook and other social networks.
"School plays, weddings, family vacations – these are the memories we hold onto long after our loved ones are gone; by sharing stories and poring over old photos and videos, we can keep those memories alive," said Asi Ohana, who founded Memories.com. "We developed Memories.com as a place to gather online and relive the memories and emotions that keep us connected. By making this site fully interactive, we hope users will use it not as a single-visit online memorial but as a place to return to time after time to celebrate life and legacy."
The impetus for Memories.com came about following the death of Ohana's grandmother. Ohana was living thousands of miles away from the rest of his family and was unable to celebrate her life in the company of loved ones. After speaking with friends and family, he learned that his story was not uncommon. So he created an online platform in which members of virtually any community can come together to share stories, photos, videos and love – regardless of location.
A unique feature of Memories.com is the ability to create Memory Albums, which are stored in individual users' Memory Vaults. Maintained by the album's Memory Keeper (the person who created it), each album represents the collaboration of family, friends and colleagues who contribute their own stories, pictures and videos to paint a complete portrait of their loved ones.
Users may create an online memorial at no charge at Memories.com. The site, available in 10 languages, is entirely non-commercial and membership is free.
