Messagenet launches Mtalk.net, a revolutionary mobile- and web-enabled communications service

Today, Messagenet S.p.A., an Italian-based technology firm that specializes in VoIP services, publicly released Mtalk.net, a revolutionary mobile- and web-enabled, instantaneous, intuitive, cloud-based communications service.

Mtalk.net provides registered users with a free and permanent personal webpage address, which can then be clicked on by contacts who want to initiate a voice call or text message. "Mtalk is a very intuitive service," said Marco Fiorentino, Messagenet's co-founder. "Our technology makes instant click-to-call or click-to-text communication possible at no cost to either party, no matter where they are in the world."

Simple and elegant, Mtalk.net represents an important innovation because it allows anyone to make a voice call or start a chat session without having to install any special software, read any instructions or register on a website. It offers a more immediate experience than other VoIP services and is easily made use of by even the least tech-savvy of web surfers, because it relies on WebRTC processes built into most modern internet browsing software.

Smartphone users do not need to register, but for now they must download a simple app to access the voice service. As mobile devices begin to support the new WebRTC communication standards, the need for the app will be eliminated. The service is compatible with any personal computer with internet access and with mobile devices running on Android; an app for iOS will be available shortly.

Mtalk.net is the simplest and speediest way now available to send an SMS or make a call to a mobile phone from a computer and vice versa, thus providing better integration between these two platforms.

A registered user's personal link can be included in their email signature or on their web page if they would like to be reachable via Mtalk.net. Users do not need to worry about being spammed even if they publicize their link; the service provides a patent-pending filtering feature that permits users to receive calls only from people whose identities have been verified by Mtalk.net. This feature protects the integrity of the link, but can also be disabled to allow Mtalk.net to be used as a web-based, global toll-free service. Mtalk.net can also be set to deliver voice messages to the user's email if they are unavailable to take an incoming call.

Mtalk.net is based on a freemium business model. The basic service is free. Additional Mtalk.net personal links, personalized services and the option of multiple concurrent calls will be available as pay services. Calls to conventional telephone numbers can be made at competitive rates, lower than Skype's. Incoming calls can be forwarded to a conventional telephone at the same low rates, and no roaming charges apply when traveling abroad. Mtalk.net can also provide free traditional phone numbers in the UK and Italy, and paid numbers with additional services in 18 countries. Mtalk.net is not an advertising-based service.

"Mtalk.net represents a user-friendly transition to WebRTC," said Emiliano Trevisani, Messagenet's VoIP technology officer. "We've integrated both a Flash- and a Java-based in-browser VoIP engine into our system – a world first." The result is that nearly all PC users today can enjoy installation-free, browser-based voice communications. Mtalk.net determines which options are available in the caller's browser and selects the best one, with no action necessary on the caller's part.

Unlike most over-the-top communication providers, Mtalk.net is open-standards-based – so it can be used with any standard SIP-based telephone, office PBX system or the like. To bypass potential blocking efforts by mobile operators in some countries, obfuscation technology has been built into the system. Mtalk.net also respects the privacy of its end users and is subject to the strict oversight of European data protection regulations.
